This is just a little question I have been wresting with for a few days now. What would you give the greater priority to when building a website, visual appeal or usability?
I believe usability is more important, 'cause visual appeal ou can change later, but it's important to make your site useful / interesting since you put it in the server. Anyway, if you can improve and make a site useful and good looking there's no problem! xD
useality is more important to build a website.
we can alter the site material at anytime.
It's definitely usability, but it's very annoyng if the website has a REALLY ugly design.
Combining the two together would make a perfect match.
Usability of course, did Google or yahoo and other great websites of our time ever depend upon appearance? Appearance is mere secondary, usability is without doubt more important. Read this article, even though it contradicts my argument it is still a good read.

It is actually 40% usability and 60% visual appeal that people fall for!
if your website has the right balance,
you will get real succesful!
Most of the people are attracted to a site by seeing its visual appearance..
Most of them remain or become the regular visitor by experiancing the usabilty..
so i give 50-50 gor design and usability...
